Parthenon dominates the Acropolis
The Acropolis is easily one of the most recognizable monuments in the world. Additionally, it’s the most significant reference point of ancient Greek culture, representing the apogee of artistic development in the fifth century BC. Acropolis Hill is a flat topped limestone outcrop covering approximately seven and a half acres (3 hectares) and standing just shy of 500 feet (148 m) in elevation. Though the Parthenon dominates the Acropolis, twenty other venerable structures occupy its solemn plane.
