Sand dunes on Mars

Nasa’s probe sent back photographs from Mars of what appear to be trees on the planet’s surface. But it is an optical illusion – they are sand dunes coated with a thin layer of frozen CO2. The “trees” are trails of debris caused by landslides as ice melts. Picture: NASA
