Upside Down Casino Skyscraper
Stephen Sobl has designed a skyscraper casino and luxury hotel with concert halls, fine dining, boxing arenas and unbelievable views. As a skyscraper and literally turned upside down, this spiraling tower drastically plunges down towards the Colorado River.
Suspended from a massive concrete cantilever and although this is just a conceptual plan, it’s pretty amazing.
The inverted tower is built of lightweight carbon-fiber supported by a spiraling metal shell. Visitors will enter the descending structure via the cantilevered plynth that houses the common spaces such as the lobby and casino floor along with event halls and boxing arena. Further down into the hanging skyscraper holds the actual hotel rooms with views out onto the river rushing south, the canyon walls, and the iconic Hoover Dam.
As the structure is comprised into three sections, the metal shell provides shading for the rooms inside and encourages natural ventilation throughout the tower. With that, the hotel would receive water and power produced by the dam, but would do it with much less of an impact, reducing losses through distribution.
