A high level of solar activity the week before, including M-class solar flares, created conditions favorable for observing aurora, which occurred two and one half days after the flares were recorded. How does a hurricane form? Although a complete picture is still being researched, insight into this process might be gleaned by watching the above time lapse movie of the formation of Hurricane Irene, a large storm system currently threatening the eastern seaboard of the USA.
One of the challenges in making this video, was trying to get good storm and star shots. The opportunity doesn’t come along very often, the storm has to be moving the right speed and the lightning can overexpose the long exposures. video by Randy Halverson
Architects Wilkinson Eyre and structural engineers Atelier 10 reveals the master-plan for the Singapore’s garden project alongside the Marina Bay. This is a £350 million project on a 54 hectare site on Singapore Marina front. The scheme is a combination of buildings, conservatories, structures and gardens.
Astronomers believe they have found an entire planet made of diamonds. Scientists at the University of Manchester think they have unearthed a once-massive star in the Milky Way that has been transformed into a small planet made of the precious rock.
