Researchers from the NOAA – National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Russia will begin the largest-ever survey of ice seals in the Bering Sea off Alaska’s west coast.
This photo shows an aerial survey of an adult male ribbon seal in the Bering Sea. Released by NOAA on April 23, 200.
In this ambitious project scientists they will use high resolution photography and thermal sensors to count ice seals in the Bering Sea. The NOAA has recommended them for listing as a threatened species due to climate warming.
