Underground five star resort in Shanghai

A five star resort by British firm Atkins, is already under construction in a place that used to be a rock quarry, located in China’s district of Songjiang, near the base of Tianmashan Mountain close to Shanghai.

The 380 rooms resort is entitled “InterContinental Shimao Wonderland”, will be 19-stories high, 16 of the 19 being underground and incorporate conference facilities hosting 1,000 people.

The hotel is scheduled to open in late 2014 to early 2015.
