Sleeping Girl sells for US$44 million

Sleeping Girl, a painting from 1964 by American artist Roy Lichtenstein, has sold at auction for $44,882,500, at Sotheby’s contemporary art sale in New York City on May 9, 2012, a new record for the US Pop Art icon.
