NASA gets two military Hubble-like Space Telescopes
The two space surveillance satellites from the US’s National Reconnaissance Office, they’ve never left the ground and are in storage in Rochester, N.Y.
It could be a great boost for NASA’s troubled scientific program, but up to this moment isn’t sure it can afford to put even one of them into orbit.
The telescopes don’t have the appropriate instruments, but they do have 2.4-meter (7.9 feet) mirrors, just like Hubble.
“It’s great news. It’s real hardware, and it’s got really impressive capabilities,” said NASA astrophysics director Paul Hertz.
