First flight of the FlyNano

Last year we posted about the surprisingly compact hydroplane FlyNano. Its first flight in the video took place recently at Finland’s Lake Hepari.

FlyNano has flown its prototype equipped with a new battery-powered electric engine.

Its wing-span is only 5 meters, its carbon fiber chassis is lighter than 70 kilograms (154 pounds), it is easy to fly (without a pilot’s license) and costs under $34,000.

With its small electric engine, you’ll be able to hit 80 mph at 9,800-foot ceiling and 40-mile range.

Delivery date is set for the end of 2013.
