Preparing for a crash test is an arduous process. The video shows how engineers at the Institute’s Vehicle Research Center attend to every detail to ensure a smooth crash test with results that can be easily measured and compared with other vehicles.
NASA’s UAVSAR (Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar) acquired synthetic aperture radar data over the Napo River in Ecuador and Peru. The image colors show the likelihood of inundation (flooding) beneath the forest canopy, which is difficult to decide using traditional optical sensors. Image © NASA/JPL-Caltech
For the exploration of our planet and of others, researchers sent a probe under the Antarctic ice in January 2013. For nearly a decade, engineers have crafted various tools and methods to see what lurks below the thick ice sheets of Antarctica, Greenland, and other ice-covered landscapes.
