Chain sculptures by Seo Young Deok

Seo Young Deok artist from South Korean with one of his sculptures, made from bicycle chains. He used more than a mile of old bicycle chains to create this human head. He spent a whole year welding together the sculpture.

Black Hole’s high-speed wind

Black Hole IGR J17091 high-speed wind

This artist’s impression shows a binary system containing a stellar-mass black hole called IGR J17091-3624, or IGR J17091 for short. The strong gravity of the black hole, on the left, is pulling gas away from a companion star on the right. This gas forms a disk of hot gas around the black hole, and the wind is driven off this disk.

Keck Observatory operates two ten-meter telescopes atop the summit of Mauna Kea Hawai’i. Keeping those telescopes on-sky every night is the summit crew of the Operations Department. This video is dedicated to the guys of the Keck daycrew who make it possible.
