Sierra Space and NASA have agreed that the Dream Chaser® spaceplane will make its first orbital flight in 2026 as a free-flying mission rather than visiting the International Space Station (ISS).
The company, known for its work in defense technology, announced that this first mission will serve as a demonstration flight to test the spacecraft’s systems and gather key data for NASA.
This new plan gives Sierra Space more flexibility to support both national security missions and future NASA and commercial projects.

Sierra Space is focusing on getting Dream Chaser ready for launch in late 2026, depending on launch vehicle availability. The agreement with NASA allows greater mission adaptability while helping demonstrate Dream Chaser’s potential for ISS resupply, commercial low-Earth orbit missions, and national defense applications.
