HIV

Researchers from Temple University probably have figured out a way to fully ‘delete’ AIDS (HIV) from human cells for the first time.

By analyzing a part of our immune system that fights infection scientists eliminated the virus from cultured cells. However, there is still a lot of hurdles to clear before such a therapy will be ready for human trials. In the meantime patients have to take a lifetime of toxic drugs to prevent its recurrence.

Researcher Kamel Khalili said that “we are working on a number of strategies so we can take the construct into preclinical studies… we want to eradicate every single copy of HIV-1 from the patent. That will cure AIDS.”
