The long-exposure photo above features the waxing crescent Moon setting behind the Arrabida Mountains in Portugal.
The Moon was 47 percent illuminated on this early winter night. Portinho da Arrabida Beach, on the Atlantic Ocean, glows softly in the moonlight. Also shown are star trails of several autumn/winter constellations and clusters including the Pleiades at the top center above the Moon. The prominent grouping of variegated streaks at upper right (north) is the circumpolar constellation of Cassiopeia. Photo taken on January 1, 2011.
This is why I subscribed of course, because of the interesting posts!
