Contrary to previous estimates, the world population will continue to increase in this century. A new report from the University of Washington claims that there is at an 80% chance that between 9.6 and 12.3 billion people will inhabit earth by 2100.
Most of this growth will be in Africa where the population is expected to quadruple, going from approximately 1 billion today to 4 billion by 2100. Unless new and alternative sources of energy, food and medicine are developed, worldwide environmental, health and other crises are expected to increase along with the population.
