California Mite

A Southern California might mite, the paratarsotomus macropalpis, is capable of running at speeds of up to 322 body lengths per second.

This is equivalent to a human running at 1,300 miles per hour and far exceeds the top speed of a cheetah, which can attain a mere 16 body lengths per second. In addition, the mite can stop and change directions extremely quickly and so may prove valuable for insights into bioengineering and other applications.
