The ‘National tennis center’, from Chinese architects atelier 11, currently under construction in Beijing, China. Projected to be complete in june 2011, the stadium will be the city’s largest stadium for tennis games with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
A practice of function creating form, the design features 16 sets of v-shaped columns that support the grandstand and accommodate the outdoor maintenance facilities. The structural system in turn gives the stadium a distinct, geometric identity by using the triangular motif throughout the circumference of the project.
The interior programs are arranged to meet the different needs of all user groups. A collapsible roof adapts to the weather changes, allowing for a maximum opening of 60x70m. In order to avoid congested circulation, the entry and exit channels were placed in accordance to the existing site conditions and traffic analysis.
