Electric Car charging plug standard

The J1772 combo plug has been selected as the Electric car charging plug standard, by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International.

According to SAE, the design of the new charging plug, was the result of session with global experts from the automotive industry, charging equipment, utilities industries and laboratories.

The new Electric car charging plug can be used for both AC and DC charging.

It’s based on the 2009 J1772, and cars with the older J1772 couplings, can still use the new plug.
