Fastest camera in the world takes 4 trillion photos a second

The fastest camera in the world, unveiled by the University of Tokyo and Keio University, is 1,000 times faster than existing high-speed cameras.

It uses a new technology called Sequentially Timed All-optical Mapping Photography, or STAMP.

The innovative optical shutter enables it to shoot images of the conduction of heat, which is transmitted at a speed equal to one-sixth the velocity of light.

Here, we present a motion-picture camera that performs single-shot burst image acquisition without the need for repetitive measurements, yet with equally short frame intervals (4.4 trillion frames per second) and high pixel resolution (450 × 450 pixels).
