In a step forward for robots, a team of surgeons at McGill University have used the da Vinci robo-surgeon and a robot anesthesiologist dubbed McSleepy to remove a patient’s prostate in what is dubbed as the world’s first all-robotic surgery.
Obviously humans were involved in controlling the robots, but the robot transmits high-definition 3D images to a nearby workstation where it is controlled by surgeons, giving the surgeons a precision that cannot be provided by humans alone. Will this pave the way for more robotic surgeries in the future?
