This massive 10,023 ft (3,055 m) shield volcano has a paved road all the way to its summit, affording wonderful views to anyone willing to make the two hour drive. It’s renowned for its sunrises. Even when a cloud deck socks in the base and flanks of Haleakala, as was the case this morning, you’re usually rewarded with a view from the top since it stands above most stratus and cumulus clouds.
