The UN’s International Court ordered Japan to stop whaling in the Southern Ocean after a four-year-long battle.   Image © wikimedia

Japan had claimed that the whaling was undertaken for ‘scientific’ purposes, but the UN, after looking at the amount of whales killed, ruled against that claim.  Japan has said that it would comply with the ruling, although they disagreed with it.
