Perhaps this is the fastest way to get humans to Mars, cash in all those expensive baubles in Rome for a rocket ship to the red planet. Establish a planet wide diocese before the Muslims send their representative to claim everything for Allah. NASA is too slow, bloated and broke.
This might be one opportunity where religious competition would result in constructive development rather than doctrinal mayhem.
We need a one billion dollar Mars competition open to the four great religious institutions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Atheism. First one there establishes and entrenches their religious conviction and defends their outposts with weapons of mass destruction. And they could make a lot of money with a reality tv show.
