Astronomers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, baffled after a rock suddenly appears out of nowhere in front of Opportunity rover on Mars. Image © NASA/JPL-Caltech
Photo taken on Jan 8th (Sol 3540) shows a rock that wasn’t there in previous images (Sol 3536). Opportunity rover hasn’t moved in over a month as it awaits better weather.
According to one theory, the rock was stuck in the rover’s wheels and fell to its current position.
Another theory claims that may be a Martian rock that was blown out of the ground by a meteoroid impact.
