ORACLE TEAM USA vs EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND

Emirates Team New Zealand nearly capsizes

Emirates Team New Zealand went to tack to starboard but the wing didn’t pop through and the 72-foot long catamaran was on the edge of capsizing. ORACLE TEAM USA grabbed the lead and extended to win by 52 seconds.

America’s Cup: AC72 Wingsail

The AC72 is a 72-foot catamaran with a wingsail. Each wing takes approximately 25,000 man hours to build. These wings are the ultimate in yacht design allowing the AC72 to fly 3x the speed of the wind.

Hydrofoils: Flying on Water

The AC72 is a speedster unlike any seen in previous America’s Cups. Powered by a 130-foot tall wing sail and with the ability to hydrofoil. Foiling reduces drag and lift the boat out of the water. We are regularly seeing the AC72s hit 40 knots, but the sky is the limit on the speeds we could see this summer.
