After almost three years and a billion dollars’ worth of work, Pulkovo International Airport terminal in St Petersburg, Russia, designed by Grimshaw Architects, has been officially opened to the public.
The London-based Grimshaw Architects won the project in 2007 in an international competition. They have designed a massive new terminal with 54-foot spans carefully tilted to keep deep snow from accumulating on the roof. Also shimmering golden panels clad the monumental folded ceilings. About 12 millions passengers are expected in and out of the Russian city every year.
