The red lights are sprites, very rare burst of light, lasting just a few milliseconds, at an altitude of 80 km above Earth.
Marko Korosec, 32, from Slovenia, managed to capture them after spending months following storms in Vivaro, Italy.
The incredible flashes of light are caused by big electrical discharges of lightning and they get their deep red color from nitrogen molecules in the air.
Korosec, said:
“It was very difficult to get these shots as they are so rare and you simply have to be quite lucky.”
