For a long period of time permanent Stations were impossible to keep up. They disappeared under the snow for a long period of time during the year, until late 1980s.
Since then a new Antarctic architecture called Ice Lab: New Architecture and Science in Antarctica changed the way these Stations are built. They now have skis!
This innovative design that most of the Stations have, has hydraulic legs that can move with skis the entire structure.
