Solar Impulse has complite first intercontinental flight

Solar Impulse has demonstrated that a solar-powered airplane can fly day and night using no fuel, and has successfully completed its 19 hours trip between Madrid and Morocco, the first of its kind transcontinental journey.   Image credit: Solar Impulse

The plane with 12,000 cells, powered only by the sun, piloted by Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, is now into the records book after completing the world’s first intercontinental flight.

Solar Impulse has complite first intercontinental flight (5)

54-year-old Bertrand Piccard, landed in Rabat, capital of Morocco, under a full moon late Tuesday after completing the 19-hour voyage from Madrid.

The next challenge for the Solar Impulse is to fly around the world.
