SpaceX Grasshopper Hoverslam

SpaceX‘s Grasshopper the vertical and takeoff and landing (VTVL) vehicle, rose 80 meters – 262 feet (the first time rose 131 feet), hovered for 34 seconds and then landed safely, on March 7, 2013.   Images © Space X.    Watch the video…


Grasshopper consists of a Falcon 9 first stage and is 33.5 meters tall (110 feet).

Since the video includes Johnny Cash’s song, “Ring of Fire,” a cowboy dummy was strapped to the side of the SpaceX’s Grasshopper.
