Stellar Axis aligns 99 spheres to stars in the Antarctic sky (5)

The global installation ‘Stellar Axis’ aligns 99 blue spheres to stars in the Antarctic sky, near the South pole, by California-based artist Lita Albuquerque.

The Stellar Axis is the first and largest artwork created on the Icy continent.

A team of researchers and astronomers along with the artist, situated 99 spacial made blue spheres on the icy surface, corresponding to the location of the stars in the sky above.

The photos are currently exhibiting at the Whatcom museum, in Washington, for ‘Vanishing Ice’, until March 2nd, 2014.
