The brand new Stuttgart City Library was designed by Yi Architects and, just a couple of days after it was finally opened, almost everyone considers it as being one of the most beautiful libraries in the whole world. It is influenced by the structure and organization of the ancient Pantheon.
The design features a linear-shaped ‘heart’ which serves as a central, multi-storey meeting space that draws in natural light through the roof.
The main focus is on the grand atrium, a massive impressive five story space that copies the style of the famous modernist MC Esher.
The ‘heart’ of the library features a series of small interior windows that wrap around the four walls and ceiling of the multi-storey volume. The place seems warm and playful.
