The memorial reef, conceived by Gary Levine and designed by Kim Brandell, sits off the coast of Key Biscayne, Florida and has gates, benches, columns, and statues. The deceased person’s cremated ashes are mixed with the cement and cast into the forms of starfish or shells and placed around the fanciful city forty five feet below the waves. The difference to your average cemetery is that visitors have to wear a wet suit.
