The tiny bird had been swiped out of the air by a red-tailed hawk (top). A huge bald eagle spotted the tasty snack and swooped for a dramatic mid-air battle. The hawk, realising his attacker was much larger than him, released its prey, which the eagle then pounced on. Photograph Rob Palmer
