China and India are joining forces for a project to build the Thirty Meter Telescope, the world’s largest telescope, being built at the summit of Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii.
The two countries will pay for the construction cost the some of one billion US dollars and the project will be finished in 2018.
The World’s Biggest Telescope:
– 100-foot-wide (30 meters) optical telescope is 9 times bigger than ones in use today
– Will pick out objects 13 billion light years away (the big bang is 13.7 billion light years)
– will be sharp enough to see exoplanets orbiting distant suns
