This is the world’s largest diesel engine, the Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C. Measures 89 feet in width and weighs around 2,300 tons. It is also the world’s most powerful engine to run on diesel with 108,920 hp.
The Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C with 14 cylinders, displacing 1,556,002 cubic inches (25,480L).
The RTA96-C still needs to be fed 1,660 gallons of heavy oil by the hour.
The engine was created by Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä for shipping Emma Mærsk in 2006 for what was at a point the largest cargo carrier in the world.

My father told me about the ship engines he worked on while in the Navy. He said they had a door in the crankcase that you used to enter the engine. As a child I could not imagine an engine so large that you could walk around inside of it. Even as an adult that spent his career as an automotive technician it was still hard to imagine. Not that I ever had any doubts before, but seeing this engine lays to rest any “hard to believe” thoughts that may still have been lingering.
