The Raptor EngineThe Raptor Engine. SpaceX

The Raptor Engine will change Space Travel.  This is how the SpaceX Raptor engine actually works.

Raptor is a series of rocket engines created by SpaceX. It is the third rocket engine ever built using a full-flow staged combustion cycle, and the first one of this type to successfully fly. The engine runs on super-cold liquid methane and liquid oxygen, also called methalox fuel.

Starship uses Raptor engines in both its Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage. Starship is designed to carry cargo and crews to Earth orbit, and in the future, to the Moon and Mars. The engines are also made to be reusable with minimal maintenance between flights.

Why it matters:
Raptor is one of the most advanced rocket engines ever developed. Its reusable design and powerful methalox fuel system could greatly reduce the cost of space travel and help make frequent missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond possible.
