Corsair drone vessel. Saronic
On June 8, two crew members from a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter were rescued by a drone boat after their aircraft went down near the coast of Oman during a patrol mission.
The soldiers were found and rescued within about two hours and are reported to be in stable condition. The cause of the incident is still being investigated.
A 24-foot (7.3-meter) uncrewed surface vessel, equipped with a 360-degree passive sensing system, helped locate the crew. The two service members climbed onto the drone boat and held onto its structure while it carried them to a safe location, where a helicopter later picked them up.
The rescue operation was led by U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and the 82nd Airborne Division, with support from U.S. Air Force and Navy units, including U.S. 5th Fleet’s Task Force 59.
