For the first time, every case for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the titanium Series 11 is made using 3D printing.

This year, Apple produced all of these cases with 100% recycled aerospace-grade titanium powder — something that wasn’t thought possible at large scale. Teams across Apple worked together to make it happen.

The Series 11 needed a flawless mirror finish, while the Ultra 3 had to stay tough and lightweight for everyday explorers.

Both models also had to be more environmentally friendly without losing any performance and still use equal or better materials.

Apple is aiming to be carbon neutral across its entire business by 2030, covering its supply chain and product use. Today, all the electricity used to make Apple Watch already comes from renewable sources like wind and solar.

“It wasn’t just an idea — it was an idea that wanted to become a reality,” says Kate Bergeron, Apple’s vice president of Product Design. “Once we asked the question, we immediately started testing it. We had to prove, with continuous prototyping, process optimization, and a tremendous amount of data gathering, that this technology was capable of meeting the high standard of quality we demand.”
