NASA has released a draft NextSTEP-3, Appendix A proposal to help speed up the development of key technologies needed for future missions to the Moon and the space around it.
The program aims to improve important systems such as vertical solar arrays, oxygen production from lunar resources (ISRU), Stirling radioisotope power generators, in-space manufacturing, and advanced nanomaterials.
The goal is to reduce technical risks, perform more ground testing, and raise these technologies to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5–6. The selected projects will support NASA’s plans for a future Moon Base by proving critical systems and helping prepare advanced technologies for upcoming lunar missions.
