World's first Clean Ammonia-Powered Container vessel

The world’s first clean ammonia-powered container vessel, named Yara Eyde, will be the first to sail an emission-free sea route between Norway and Germany.

Yara Clean Ammonia, North Sea Container Line, and Yara International are collaborating to pioneer the world’s inaugural container ship named Yara Eyde, fueled by clean ammonia.

This innovative vessel will embark on the first-ever emission-free sea journey between Norway and Germany. Given that global shipping contributed to a staggering 706 million tonnes of CO2 emissions last year, we must foster collaboration across value chains to achieve the 1.5°C target by 2030.

Yara Eyde has been specifically designed for the trade corridor connecting Norway and Germany, with planned routes between Oslo, Porsgrunn, Hamburg, and Bremerhaven.

Starting in 2026, Norwegian businesses can engage in emissions-free trading of their products to and from Norway. The fertilizers manufactured in Porsgrunn will be transported to Germany without emissions, resulting in a remarkable reduction of 11,000 tonnes of CO2 per year in scope 3 emissions.
