A plant-based, fully degradable plastic that dissolves in water within a few hours and leaves no microplastics.
Researchers at the RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science (CEMS) in Japan have developed a new plant-based plastic.
In this video, a flexible and strong plastic bag made from carboxymethyl cellulose supramolecular plastic (CMCSP) is shown completely dissolving in artificial seawater.
The process takes only a few hours and leaves no microplastic residue.
This material was created by Takuzo Aida and his team at RIKEN CEMS using ingredients that are approved by the FDA.
