A smaller version of Las Vegas’s iconic Sphere is coming to the Washington, D.C. area.

Sphere Entertainment, the company behind the massive Las Vegas venue, announced plans to build a new Sphere at National Harbor in Maryland. The project would be the second Sphere in the U.S. and the first to use a scaled-down design.

The new venue is being developed in partnership with the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and Peterson Companies. It’s expected to become a major regional landmark, bringing immersive entertainment experiences powered by advanced technology, while boosting the local economy and community.

The project will be funded through a mix of public and private investment, including about $200 million in state, local, and private incentives. Construction is expected to create around 2,500 jobs, with nearly 4,750 permanent jobs once the venue opens. Officials estimate the Sphere could generate more than $1 billion in economic impact each year.

National Harbor, located about 15 minutes from downtown Washington, D.C., is already one of the region’s top destinations. Set along the Potomac River, it attracts over 15 million visitors annually with its mix of entertainment, dining, shopping, gaming, conventions, and leisure activities.

“Our focus has always been on creating a global network of Spheres across forward-looking cities,” said James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sphere Entertainment. “Sphere is a new experiential medium. With a commitment to bringing innovative opportunities to residents and visitors, Governor Moore, County Executive Braveboy, the State of Maryland, and Prince George’s County recognize the potential for a Sphere at National Harbor to elevate and advance immersive experiences across the area.”
