EcoHelmet is a foldable, vendable, recyclable helmet designed for bike.
EcoHelmet paper bike helmet designed by Isis Shiffer, 29, won a major engineering award, the Dyson prize.
The innovative paper made helmet features honeycomb design that folds to the tenth of the opened size, offers a good protection, can be recycled and costs just £5.
Isis Shiffer said:
‘There were no easily accessible helmet options available. I was on unfamiliar streets, cycling in foreign countries.
Tests at Imperial College shows that the new paper helmet, is just as good at protecting the skull as classic ones.
Constructed from waterproofed recycled paper in a radial honeycomb pattern, EcoHelmet absorbs blows from any direction as effectively as traditional polystyrene. It folds flat for easy vending and fits most head sizes.
EcoHelmet is designed to give cyclists the confidence they need to ride safely in the city.
Inventor James Dyson said:
“EcoHelmet solves an obvious problem in an incredibly elegant way. But its simplicity belies an impressive amount of research and development. I look forward to seeing EcoHelmets used in bike shares across the world.”
