Creators of the original antigravity treadmill continue to advance technology with a new company.

The antigravity treadmill, originally developed by NASA’s Robert Whalen in the 1980s–90s to simulate gravity for astronauts, later inspired his son to create the AlterG treadmill for rehabilitation.

In 2017, Whalen and his team founded Boost Treadmills to make this technology more affordable for home use. Based in Palo Alto, Boost launched the improved, quieter Boost 2 in 2022, significantly increasing home sales.

The treadmill helps reduce impact during exercise, benefiting injured patients and those with chronic mobility issues. It’s a prime example of how space technology improves life on Earth.
