Audi will make its Formula 1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix on March 8. The Audi R26 is powered by the AFR 26 Hybrid power unit, developed at Audi’s Neuburg an der Donau facility. The engine was started in the car for the first time shortly before Christmas in Hinwil, and the team completed its first on-track run on January 9 in Barcelona.

The 2026 Formula 1 season will introduce major rule changes. Cars will use active front and rear wings that adjust while driving. The current DRS system will be replaced by a new boost mode, giving drivers extra electric power for overtaking or defense. The electric motor will produce up to 350 kW, nearly matching the 400 kW output of the 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine, which will run on sustainable fuel. Audi is working exclusively with BP on fuel development.
