The Japan’s impressive E10 Shinkansen bullet train set to launch in 2030.

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) is preparing to introduce the E10 Shinkansen bullet train, featuring a design inspired by cherry blossom petals.

The train, developed in collaboration with UK-based design consultancy Tangerine, maintains the classic Shinkansen look with a continuous line running along its side. This line curves smoothly between cars, forming a pattern reminiscent of cherry blossom petals.

The train’s exterior is painted in shades of green—‘Tsugaru Green’ on top and ‘Evening Elm’ at the bottom—reflecting the landscapes and mountains of the Tohoku region.

The E10 Shinkansen is being designed to replace the E2 and E5 series, with completion expected by fall 2027. After test runs, it is set to begin commercial operations by 2030. Each train will have 10 cars and run between Tokyo and the Tohoku region.
