Google’s GenCast AI-powered Weather Forecasting Tool. DeepMind
Google DeepMind’s GenCast, an AI-powered weather forecasting tool, can produce 15 days of highly accurate forecasts in minutes.
Google DeepMind’s new AI model, GenCast, is set to revolutionize weather forecasting. This tool generates highly accurate 15-day forecasts in just minutes. Trained on 40 years of global weather data (1979–2018), GenCast predicts outcomes for over 80 variables at 12-hour intervals.
In tests, GenCast outperformed the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts’ ensemble system (ENS) 97.2% of the time, excelling in forecasting extreme weather, tropical cyclones, and wind power production. The team believes GenCast’s rapid and precise predictions could greatly enhance weather planning and preparedness worldwide.
