The Interstellar jet from Webb is being shot out by a young star system still forming, known as Herbig-Haro 49 (HH 49).
The star system itself isn’t in the picture — it’s located just outside the frame at the lower right.
This detailed infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope also shows another jet, labeled HH 50. These fast-moving jets hit the nearby interstellar gas, creating glowing shock waves. In the image, these appear as reddish-brown ridges in the infrared light.
The JWST also helped solve a mystery at the tip of Herbig-Haro 49. What looked like a strange object is actually a distant spiral galaxy. The blue area isn’t a single star — it’s made up of many stars, and the surrounding rings are its spiral arms.
