The LEGO Smart Play System adds interactivity to classic LEGO sets.

LEGO has introduced its new Smart Play system, which combines traditional bricks with smart tags and minifigures. These pieces include built-in sensors and a small speaker, allowing them to respond during play.

Some call it a game-changer for LEGO play, or the biggest innovation since the minifigure was introduced in 1978.

LEGO’s goal was to make brick-built creations feel alive. The sets can react to how they are handled, recognize different characters, and respond in real time. This level of interaction is new for LEGO toys.

The smart bricks are charged wirelessly using a yellow charging dock.

Launching in March 2026, the LEGO Smart Play system aims to change how kids play with LEGO. The creations react naturally to play, without using screens.

Simply put, these are LEGO bricks that can respond and play back.
